The ANM candidates work as an assistant for Grade-A nurses and doctors. They help society in many ways and help the needy who require good treats. These people can create their society by working in different NGOs and helping orphans in orphanages.

ANM- related work includes maternal and child health care, family planning services, health and nutrition education, efforts to maintain environmental Sanitation, immunization to control infectious diseases, minor injuries treatment, and first emergency aid.

The Mukherjee Committee prescribed a system of targets and incentives in 1966 and identified ANMs and village-level workers to popularize Health Program. Before this, the ANM focuses on only Midwifery and Child and Mother Health. In 1986, the National Education Policy gave an ANM program a Vocational Education. 

Later on, the Indian Nursing Council (INC) recommended making the ANM course Vocational at the +2 level.

There is a total 1936 number of colleges for this course, out of which 1615 colleges are private, and 275 colleges belong to governmental institutions. The total number of seats available for this course in India is 1,00,930. The minimum age required for this course is 17 years.

ANM Nursing Full Form

The complete form of ANM is abbreviated from a medical word. The full form of ANM nursing is Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery, which means people who help nurses and are compassionate in caring for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in their issues and help assist the doctors while curing the patients.

The significant motives of the ANM courses are to train candidates who can function as basic health workers in society and give treatment to children, women, and aged people. They can even do charity work by giving support to NGOs.

This course is open for the students who have appeared in their +2 studies, irrespective of the streams they are from (whether it be science, commerce, or arts). Science students (biology, physics, and chemistry) are the most eligible.

It is mandatory to notify that the minimum percentage of marks required to be qualified to take admission in ANM Nursing Course is approx. 50%, and at least 45% of marks for ST, SC, or OBC categories.
